The Buffalo Bills will seek to build on their impressive victory against the Detroit Lions when they meet the New England Patriots on Sunday. The Bills’ success last week was powered by a strong offensive performance. Quarterback Josh Allen ended with four total touchdowns and more over 400 yards. While several Bills receivers performed admirably, Allen’s most effective weapon in the game was running back Ty Johnson.
The backup running back had a team-high five catches for 114 receiving yards. After the game, coach Sean McDermott complimented Johnson’s efforts.
“Ty is showing up in some other areas, one of which has been the passing game,” McDermott told reporters.
“I love the fact that he’s embraced some of that and really working hard on being elite in that category.” McDermott went on to compare Johnson to a Super Bowl-winning running back with whom the Bills are quite aware. “Because when you have that type of trait, I mean, I met James White before the game out here (when we played New England), and he was incredibly difficult to manage in the passing game. “Having that type of player can be extremely beneficial to an offense,” McDermott stated.
White played his entire eight-year career with the New England Patriots, winning three Super Bowls alongside Tom Brady and Bill Belichick.
Johnson leads all Bills running backs this season with 275 receiving yards and three touchdowns. He has 154 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown this season.
