Auburn quarterback is set to join the Big Ten via the transfer portal after two seasons with the Tigers.
According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, the former recruit from Tennessee has committed to Iowa following a visit to Iowa City this week. Thamel noted that Brown was drawn to the Hawkeyes by the program’s consistent culture under Kirk Ferentz and the offensive variety introduced by new coordinator Tim Lester.
Standing at 6-foot-4 and 195 pounds, Brown redshirted his first season at Auburn and played in one game during the 2023 season. This year, he appeared in four games, throwing for 403 yards, six touchdowns, and three interceptions. His best performance came against New Mexico, where he threw for 235 yards and four touchdowns. However, he struggled in his next outing against Arkansas, completing just 7-of-13 passes for 72 yards and three interceptions with no touchdowns.
The move to Iowa is a logical fit, as Tim Lester, who arrived in 2024, is tasked with revitalizing an offense that had stagnated under Brian Ferentz. While the Hawkeyes didn’t break scoring records, they showed improvement and showcased standout running back Kaleb Johnson despite rotating through three quarterbacks.
Brown may also have a clear path to early playing time at Iowa. The Hawkeyes have seen three quarterbacks, including former starter Cade McNamara, enter the portal this offseason. McNamara, who battled injuries during his two seasons at Iowa, started for the team in 2023 and 2024.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Brown, but he could play a significant role in Iowa’s plans moving forward.
