Kansas State will lose one of its finest wide outs to the transfer portal. A junior who has started the last two seasons for the Wildcats, has declared that he will transfer and pursue his college football career elsewhere. “Thank you Kansas State and the Manhattan community for your overwhelming support during my Wildcat career,” Johnson posted on social media. “I will always treasure my stay here, and I will remember these memories forever.
With that said, I’ve decided to use the transfer portal. Johnson leaves K-State after collecting 53 catches for 586 yards and three scores over the previous two seasons.
He will be missed by Chris Klieman and the Kansas State offense. Even though his aggregate stats were not very outstanding, he was one of the greatest perimeter blockers on the team and a significant contributor to the running game. Johnson also had some excellent outings in a purple uniform, such as six catches for 76 yards and a touchdown against Houston this year and seven throws for 70 yards and a touchdown against Texas last season.
Without injuries, his stats could have been even better. He will have one year of college eligibility remaining after starting his career at Iowa. K-State also just lost freshman wide receiver Tre Spivey to the transfer portal.
Adding athletes at that position will be a focus for Klieman and his coaching staff this offseason. More than a dozen Kansas State football players have elected to enter the transfer portal since the regular season ended. So far, the Wildcats have signed one incoming transfer: Jordan Rowe, a 6-foot-2, 221-pound defensive back who left the Oklahoma Sooners.
