Breaking News: Yankees-Cardinals Trade Gets Shocking Reality

The St. Louis Cardinals are exploring the possibility of trading Nolan Arenado this offseason as they begin a rebuilding phase following another year without a playoff appearance. Meanwhile, the New York Yankees are in need of stronger infield defense and another impactful bat, making a connection to Arenado seem logical. Rumors quickly surfaced linking the Yankees to the Cardinals’ star third baseman. However, YES Network’s Jack Curry dispelled those rumors on Tuesday night.

“In discussions with Yankee officials about Arenado, the response I received was that they have great respect for the player he has been and still is,” Curry stated. “But at this moment, he’s not seen as a fit. He’s not someone they are actively pursuing. Given his price tag and performance last season, the Yankees believe there are better options available.”

St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado (28) hits a one run single against the Pittsburgh Pirates during the third inning at Busch Stadium.

This update came after the Yankees signed Max Fried to a record-breaking eight-year contract, the largest ever for a left-handed pitcher. The deal significantly bolsters their rotation, creating a surplus of starting pitchers that could be used as trade assets to acquire a hitter. However, Arenado will not be part of those plans.

Where should the Cardinals look for Nolan Arenado trade?

The Cardinals face a challenge in trying to move an aging infielder with three years remaining on his contract. Nolan Arenado’s deal still carries over $70 million, which puts small-market teams out of contention. With the Dodgers also withdrawing from consideration, the two biggest markets have been ruled out. The question now is: where can the Cardinals turn next?
