Just a week ago, Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen stunned us all with an electrifying lateral touchdown, shattering both franchise and league records in the process. The unexpected move (and subsequent victory) was yet another evidence of the Bills’ supremacy this season, as they are currently ranked first in the AFC East and on their way to the playoffs.
When asked Thursday what’s different about the squad this year (i.e. what’s driving their outstanding run), Bills OT and 2024 Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee Dion Dawkins responded with a great—and hilarious—answer.
“It’s significantly different; our quarterback is engaged. “It’s drastically different; there’s love in the air, man,” Dawkins joked, before explaining that the phrase is true.
“We all stem from the head,” he said. “[Allen] touches the ball on every single play. And I’m not suggesting anything awful has ever happened because of anything; that’s not my point. But when he is completely correct and feels entirely whole, we have the best chance of winning… You can see how he smiles and how he is throughout interviews. You can observe how he runs on and off the field. You can feel how he’s playing. That is the difference. It starts with 17, and the rest trickles down.”
I asked Dion Dawkins if something was different about the Bills this year.

“I want to be the best version for him because he has shown me the best version of Josh Allen, currently,” he said. “And next year, it will be a better version. And every year after that.
Allen proposed to actress Hailee Steinfeld on Buffalo’s bye. He had a bye in Week 12, thus last week’s game against the San Francisco 49ers (the one with the lateral touchdown) was his first as an engaged man. Does Dawkins need to say anything else?
