Given where the Bills may land in the draft order, this is excellent value.
Since their arrival in Buffalo in 2017, Brandon Beane and Sean McDermott have made defense their primary focus. Since the 2017 NFL Draft (before Beane was promoted as general manager), the Bills have selected five defensive players in the first round. Tre’Davious White, Tremaine Edmunds, Ed Oliver, Greg Rousseau, and Kaiir Elam are some of the players involved. The duo also selected A.J. Epenesa in the second round of the 2020 draft.
Recently, the Bills have changed their emphasis to offensive early on. In 2018, they selected the superstar they had hoped for, Josh Allen. The Bills traded up in 2023 to get tight end Dalton Kincaid. Then, after trading out of the first round, the Bills selected current rookie wide receiver Keon Coleman. The offense has required a fresh direction recently, but the defense may be the primary concern after this season.
Given the status of their defense, players like as Matt Milano, Rasul Douglas, DaQuan Jones, and Von Miller may only have one more year after 2024, if that.
Von Miller is most likely the first of these four players to leave (if Douglas’ contract is extended). Miller joined with the Bills in 2022 to fill a need as their closer. That signing hasn’t worked out, and it’s only a matter of time before the split occurs.
Buffalo Bills draft Von Miller replacement in recent 2025 NFL mock draft
CBS Sports Writer Chris Trapasso presented a surprising 2025 NFL mock draft in which Colorado’s Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders are the top two picks. However, this will have no effect on the Bills. According to Trapasso’s mock draft, the Bills will select Arkansas edge rusher Landon Jackson.
Standing at 6’7″ and 280 pounds, the Bills would be acquiring a complementary player to assist support Greg Rousseau on the opposite side. A.J. Epenesa has been solid for the Bills over the last two seasons, but he is hardly a long-term starter. Drafting Jackson means adding youthful talent at a critical position.
Rousseau is already looking for a large contract extension, so adding another pass-rusher on a cheap rookie contract might be beneficial to Buffalo. Jackson has been a consistent performer for the Razorbacks, recording 13 sacks over the last two seasons and being able to knock down passes at the line of scrimmage.
Von Miller’s tenure in Buffalo will come to an end sooner than later. Bills supporters should not be surprised that his eventual replacement was drafted.
