Just In: Virginia Tech Football Coach Brent Pry Announces Ground-breaking Coaching Decision

With all of the Hokies’ retainment and a successful end to the 2023 season, Virginia Tech was gaining traction as a potential dark horse for the new 12-team College Football Playoff before to the 2024 college football season.

Throughout the preseason, head coach Brent Pry said all the right things and appeared to have the rebuild on track for his third season in Blacksburg. However, a dramatic overtime loss at Vanderbilt to start the season set the tone for a disappointing 6-6 season that required a win last Saturday night at home against Virginia to even become bowl-eligible.
The troubles this season, as well as the coaching negligence at times throughout the season, whether it was Pry, offensive coordinator Tyler Bowen, or defensive coordinator Chris Marve, all seem to have contributed to the poor season. All of this has sparked conjecture about whether or not the Hokies may face coaching changes, but it appears that this will not be the case.

Pry spoke with the media after early-signing day on Wednesday, and there was one concern about whether his staff would change for next season. The former Penn State defensive coordinator seemed like he had no plans to make any adjustments.

“I am hopeful. “We have great people in this building,” Pry remarked. “There are probably certain things we might do better. And it begins with me.

To say there are things we need to do better would be an understatement of the year. There were far too many instances where modifications were not made, and clock management was a significant issue. When you consider game plans on the offensive side of the ball that made no sense (remember Clemson rushing the ball four times) and dubious play-calling, it’s not surprising that a move was made. Defensively, there were moments when Marve failed to make adjustments or made them too late in games.

Other aspects of the staff may have seen some adjustments, but it appears that Pry intends to run it again in 2025, which might result in the same consequences as a no-look roster. You’d think that after this season, things would have changed, but evidently not. It will be interesting to observe what happens when the transfer portal launches next week.
