JUST IN: South Carolina Football Lands Blockbuster Commitment for Another Top Talented 4-Star Player

This is a landmark moment for Eastside High School and the University of South Carolina football program, as highly coveted four-star defensive lineman, has officially signed his national letter of intent to play for the Gamecocks.

He stands 6-foot-5 and weighs 225 pounds, making him a formidable opponent. During his senior season with the Eagles, he recorded 92 tackles, including 61 solo tackles, 24 tackles for loss, 20 quarterback hurries and 11 sacks.

“I feel like I opened up more doors for myself and my family,” Jaquavious “Quay” Dodd told the audience.

Furthermore, the Gamecocks have become a new part of his family, as has his bond with Shane Beamer, whom Dodd describes as “feeling like a father.”

He was surrounded by his family, friends, classmates, teachers, and coaches, each of whom took the time to say something unique.

“I’m a Gamecocks fan, but I’m a Quay Dodd fan first,” Eastside Principal Todd Stafford told Dodd.

Dodd’s commitment is a major victory for the Gamecocks, who continue to prioritize bolstering their defensive front under Beamer’s leadership. Known for his relentless motor and ability to dominate at the line of scrimmage, Dodd recorded 14 sacks and 25 tackles for loss during his senior season, cementing his status as one of the nation’s premier defensive prospects.

Eastside High head coach Marcus Fields praised Dodd for his work ethic and leadership. “Quay is a once-in-a-generation talent, but what sets him apart is his character and dedication,” Fields said. “He’s been a leader for our program, and I know he’s going to make a big impact at South Carolina.”

Dodd, who is ranked as the No. 12 defensive lineman in the 2024 recruiting class by 247Sports, becomes the crown jewel of the Gamecocks’ defensive recruiting efforts. His signing bolsters a South Carolina class that has gained momentum in recent months and currently ranks in the top 15 nationally.

Gamecock fans will get their first glimpse of Dodd in Columbia next summer when he enrolls early to participate in spring practices. For now, he leaves Eastside High with a legacy of excellence and a bright future ahead in the SEC.
