BREAKING: Cardinals and Phillies Agree to Blockbuster Trade for $81M Star

The St. Louis Cardinals are now ready to begin the reconstruction that was predicted a few seasons ago. St. Louis could consider trading a variety of veterans on its roster, including Ryan Helsley, Nolan Arenado, and Sonny Gray. According to Jim Bowden of The Athletic, St. Louis will make a significant investment in this rebuilding process.

Bowden thinks that the Cardinals will trade their outstanding closer, Helsley, to the Philadelphia Phillies in a major deal this winter. Helsley is expected to get a six-year, $82 million contract when he enters free agency after the 2025 season, according to Spotrac. “The Cardinals are focused on rebuilding, while the Phillies require a hard-throwing, impact reliever.”

Bowden stated, “The Phillies lost two key high-leverage relievers to free agency – Jeff Hoffman and Carlos Estévez – and have made it a priority to address that area this offseason.” “Helsley won the Trevor Hoffman Award winner this year as the best closer/reliever in the National League, logging a 2.04 ERA with 49 saves and 79 strikeouts in 66 1/3 innings.” Bowden went on to outline how a deal may be completed. He proposed that the Cardinals combine Helsley and Arenado to bring in Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm and other prospects.

This transaction would provide the Phillies with the reliever and Bohm replacement they are seeking for. It would offer the Cardinals a youthful All-Star at third base while also releasing Arenado from his big contract. Nothing of this nature has been rumored to be discussed, but it is undoubtedly the framework of a deal that might be very beneficial. Given both team’s needs, I wouldn’t be surprised if these two sides work out a deal this summer.
