Achor Achor scored a season-high 21 points as Kansas State dominated Arkansas-Pine Bluff 120-73 on Sunday in Manhattan, Kansas.
The Wildcats (6-2) set a new school record for points in a game, surpassing the previous mark of 116, set two seasons ago against Texas. Taj Manning sealed the record with a 3-pointer with 1:57 remaining.
Achor was one of six Kansas State players to score in double figures. The team’s top three scorers—Achor, Dug McDaniel (18 points), and David Castillo (17 points)—came off the bench, contributing to a remarkable 68 bench points. Other notable performances included David N’Guessan with 17 points, Brendan Hausen with 14, and Max Jones with 12.
Kansas State’s previous season-high in points was an 89-65 win over New Orleans. They surpassed that mark with a layup from Achor that made it 90-51 with 11:15 left. The Wildcats reached triple digits at the 5:23 mark with a Hausen 3-pointer, extending their lead to 102-61.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff (1-8) suffered its seventh consecutive loss, all by margins of 12 points or more. The Golden Lions were led by Chop Paljor with 15 points, Dante Sawyer with 12, and Kyle Brown with 10.
Kansas State continued their dominance in the second half, excelling from beyond the arc just as they had in the first. The Wildcats shot 11-of-20 from 3-point range after halftime, finishing an impressive 21-of-40 from deep for the game.
K-State was heavily favored and lived up to expectations, jumping out to an 8-0 lead and extending it to 17-3 by the first media timeout. The Wildcats built a commanding 32-point lead in the first half and entered the locker room up 63-33. Their 63 points were the third-most in a first half in school history, as they shot 57.1% from the field in the opening period and 61.5% overall for the game.
The Wildcats also capitalized on turnovers, holding a 23-2 edge in points off turnovers by forcing 11 in the first half while committing just three. Six K-State players scored at least eight points in the half, with David Castillo (11 points) and Achor Achor (10 points) leading the bench production.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff struggled to keep pace, with Chop Paljor leading the team with seven first-half points.
