BREAKING: Top Experienced Virginia Tech Wide Receiver Enters Transfer Portal

Even though the 2024 college football regular season has over, December will be extremely active. The early-signing period begins this week, and the transfer portal will formally open on December 9. Again, it “officially opens on Dec. 9,” but it does not mean that players’ intentions to enter the gateway will be ignored.

Despite the fact that the regular season has only ended two days ago, numerous players have already indicated that they will use the transfer portal. One former Virginia Tech wide receiver has decided to return to college football for another season.

Da’Wain Lofton, a former Hokies wide receiver, will transfer after only one season at Oklahoma State. Injuries hampered his 2024 season in Stillwater, and he did not return to the field until midseason.

This season, the 5-foot-11, 190-pounder from Fort Worth, Texas, recorded six receptions for 140 yards for Oklahoma State. His longest reception, for 56 yards, came in a 38-28 loss to Baylor on October 26. It was his sole catch of the game.

Virginia Tech receiver transfer Da'Wain Lofton commits to Oklahoma State

Lofton played three seasons at Virginia Tech before joining Oklahoma State.

In 2021, he recorded seven receptions for 98 yards and a touchdown before having his greatest season in 2022, with 22 grabs for 254 yards and two touchdowns. In 2023, he had six catches for 58 yards with the Hokies.

At Virginia Tech, he saw the writing on the wall when four wide receivers, Jaylin Lane, Da’Quan Felton, Stephen Gosnell, and Ali Jennings, announced in December that they would return in 2024 to give Brent Pry a deep room. Lofton anticipated there would be few catches. Here’s hope he finds a program where he can contribute significantly to their offense next season.
