Virginia Tech football: Hokies Injury Concerns Get Worse Ahead of Virginia Match

The more things change, the more they remain constant. One year ago, the Virginia Tech Hokies were 5-6 and preparing for their regular-season finale at Virginia. However, there was a lot of hope for VT because it appeared like head coach Brent Pry was fixing things out and the Hokies had discovered a quarterback (Kyron Drones).

Virginia Tech is now preparing for its regular-season finale versus Virginia, with one win needed to become bowl-eligible. However, the feelings surrounding the 2023 Hokies and the 2024 version are very different. Pry persuaded all of his top players to return in 2024, and many around the country, including Hokie Nation, bought in, believing Tech might be a surprise CFP candidate.

Again, the Hokies are 5-6. Fans are frustrated. Alumni are disappointed after another unsuccessful season. Will people flock to Lane Stadium to watch the Hokies hopefully maintain their lead over the Cavaliers?

Drones has been injured for several weeks, missing games against Syracuse and Duke while playing against Clemson while being plainly crippled. He did not play last week, allowing Collin Schlee to start. Unfortunately, Schlee was also injured, paving the door for redshirt freshman William “Pop” Watson.

Watson completed 12 of 25 throws for 146 yards and one interception. Watson had his moments and could potentially be on track to earn his first college start.

Pry provided an update on his quarterbacks on Tuesday, indicating that both are questionable. He claimed he didn’t have a solid answer because both were confined and in treatment protocol, and Schlee was a little more along.

Pry and his crew were prepping four quarterbacks in case Drones and Schlee were unable to play. In addition to Watson, rookie Davi Belfort is getting more reps in practice in case he is required on Saturday against the Hoosiers.
