Bills Get Intriguing Trade Update With Potential Amari Cooper Replacement Confirmed

The Buffalo Bills made a significant boost to their wide receiver corps by trading for Amari Cooper ahead of the NFL trade deadline, a decision that paid off quickly when he grabbed a touchdown just a few days later.

Cooper’s long-term future in Buffalo is questionable, despite the fact that he is anticipated to play a larger part in the offense for the rest of the season as the Bills seek their fifth consecutive division title and a crack at the AFC’s No. 1 overall spot. He will be a free agent after this season, and there is no guarantee he will return.

According to Alex Ballentine of Bleacher Report, the Bills might devise a backup plan centered on a talented young wide receiver who is now having his greatest season.

Bills Have More Work in Wide Receiving Corps

In an assessment of roster needs for all 32 NFL teams, Ballentine indicated the Bills may look to Washington Commanders wide receiver Dyami Brown, who will be a free agency after the season. Brown, 25, has already set career highs with 16 catches for 171 yards this season, including one touchdown catch.

“The Bills have put together a receiving corps that’s good enough right now, but the work isn’t quite done,” Ballentine complained. “If Buffalo cannot re-sign Amari Cooper after trading for him, they will have to focus on acquiring new players. At the same time, the Bills are unlikely to seek the highest level of free agency monetarily.

While Brown’s production isn’t particularly impressive, Ballentine advised that the Bills contract him based on his potential and see how he performs with Josh Allen at quarterback.

“Targeting someone like Dyami Brown would provide them with a younger free agent who has the potential to improve. Brown has shown some potential with the Commanders this season, but a fresh start in Buffalo could help him improve,” Ballentine noted.

Room for Amari Cooper to Grow

The offseason is still a long way off for the Bills, who have Super Bowl aspirations this year. In a previous post, Ballentine indicated that as the season progresses, the Bills will need to expand Cooper’s role, putting greater trust in the receiver with the best chance of becoming a No. 1 on a team that relies on spreading out the targets.

Cooper, according to Ballentine, made some critical plays in the team’s victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, but he still plays a minor part in the offense.

“He made his presence felt against the Chiefs with two receptions for 55 yards, but he was only targeted three times,” according to Ballentine. “Cooper is currently one of the team’s greatest downfield separators. It would be great to see the Bills use him more as the season progresses.”

The Bills may have had an opportunity to acclimate Cooper over the bye week. They will return with a chance to win the AFC East, which they can do with a Miami Dolphins loss on Thanksgiving and a Bills victory against the San Francisco 49ers on December 1.
