Salty Panthers Defender Goes After Patrick Mahomes Following Loss to Chiefs

The Panthers appear dissatisfied with the officiating in the game against the Chiefs, with one prominent Carolina defender offering a questionable excuse involving Patrick Mahomes after the loss.

Jadeveon Clowney, who had a solid performance with three tackles, 1.5 sacks, and two tackles for loss, criticized the officiating crew. While the referees may not have been flawless, it’s a stretch to claim they were the reason for Kansas City’s victory.

This reaction comes across more as frustration from an opponent regretting his team choice, now attempting to take shots at the NFL’s top team.

Panthers DE Jadeveon Clowney Calls Out Patrick Mahomes for Referee Treatment

Patrick Mahomes secured the Chiefs’ win with a pivotal 33-yard run during the final drive. Contrary to Jadeveon Clowney’s critique, Mahomes didn’t rely on the sideline to avoid contact. Instead, the play was made possible by a crucial block and Mahomes’ ability to find a lane upfield.

The blame for Carolina’s loss lies more with their own defensive shortcomings than with the officiating. The Panthers’ inability to contain Mahomes or execute effectively on defense was the true reason for their defeat.

It’s reasonable for Clowney to question specific penalties, but making that the centerpiece of his post-game press conference felt disappointing. Despite his standout performance—recording 1.5 sacks and multiple tackles for loss—his defense ultimately couldn’t stop Patrick Mahomes in the game’s critical moments.

Mahomes, a three-time Super Bowl MVP, delivered yet another stellar performance with three touchdowns, no interceptions, and a clutch 33-yard run to seal the win. Even though the Panthers sacked him five times, it proved inconsequential when it mattered most.

Comments like Clowney’s often come across poorly, especially after a hard-fought game. While his frustration is understandable given his strong effort, it highlights the bigger issue: the Panthers’ inability to close out against one of the league’s best.
