MLB Insider Calls Out Dodgers for Disrespectful Comments About Yankees After World Series Win

The Los Angeles Dodgers are facing criticism for comments made by some of their players regarding the New York Yankees after their Game 5 defeat in the World Series. On ESPN’s Baseball Tonight with Buster Olney, the reporter expressed his disapproval of Joe Kelly and Chris Taylor taking shots at the Yankees. Olney argued that if the Yankees had won, players like Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, and Anthony Volpe would never have criticized the Dodgers.

Olney specifically mentioned Taylor’s comments on Mookie Betts’ podcast, where Taylor remarked, “We’re all kind of thinking it — (the Yankees) kind of (crapped) down their leg.” While Olney acknowledged Taylor’s successful career, he criticized the Dodgers for not taking the high road after their World Series victory. He suggested that they should have celebrated their triumph with more class, given how difficult their sport is and the respect they should have for the game.

The Dodgers’ comeback in Game 5, helped by poor defense from the Yankees, was dramatic. After trailing 0-5, the Dodgers mounted a five-run rally in the fifth inning. Though the Yankees added a run in the sixth, the Dodgers responded with two more runs in the eighth. The shift in momentum was stark, turning Yankee Stadium from a place of excitement to one of defeat in mere minutes.

Players have noted the strange atmosphere during Game 5, highlighting the Yankees’ surprising defensive mistakes, which played a key role in the Dodgers’ historic comeback and eventual World Series victory.

While it might sound harsh, the statement holds some truth—the Dodgers likely wouldn’t have won without the Yankees’ subpar defense. However, we’ll never know how Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, or Anthony Volpe would have reacted to the Dodgers had the Yankees won the World Series. Ultimately, Olney just wishes the Dodgers would have chosen a more dignified approach and taken the high road in their post-victory remarks.
