Steelers defender takes shot at Josh Allen, says Buffalo Bills QB is not MVP candidate

We may know the identify of at least one NFL player who picked Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen as the league’s most overrated quarterback in a preseason survey.

Pittsburgh Steelers safety DeShon Elliott recently expressed his opinions about Allen, and it’s evident that he’s not a fan of his game. Elliott spoke with Marlon Humphrey on his Punch Line Podcast about the league’s MVP

competition. According to Elliot, the contest is between Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson and Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

“Going for that third MVP, I mean behind Pat Mahomes, has to be him [Lamar Jackson],” Elliott asserted. Technically, no one else is doing it quite as he is.”

Elliott took a jab at Allen after offering his thoughts on Jackson and Mahomes, claiming that the quarterback does not belong in the MVP contest because he is a “turnover magnet.”

“You can say Josh Allen here and there, but he’s a turnover magnet,” Elliott told me. “I’m going to keep it a bean at all times.”

Allen has struggled with turnovers in the past, but he is doing a much better job of preserving the football in 2024. Allen ranks 20th among all quarterbacks in turnovers (7) after 11 weeks.

Mahomes, whom Elliot identified as a viable MVP candidate, ranks sixth with 11 turnovers this season.

Jackson was a controversial MVP winner last season, appearing to earn the honor more so because the Ravens claimed the AFC’s top seed, but he is undoubtedly deserving of consideration again this year.

Elliott is entitled to his opinion, but Allen is as legitimate an MVP candidate as there is in this league. The Bills quarterback has helped the team get off to a 9-2 start this season. He’s thrown for 2.543 yards and 18 touchdowns, completing 64% of his passes. Allen has also ran for 316 yards and five touchdowns throughout this period.

Making his total stat record even more astounding is the fact that Allen has exited games early or thrown a limited number of passes due to Buffalo’s overwhelming advantage. Allen’s case was strengthened lately when the Chiefs, led by Mahomes, suffered their first regular-season loss in Week 11.

Elliott may not think of Allen as a serious MVP candidate, but fans are sure to disagree.
