This is sure to lift the spirits of New York Yankees fans anxiously awaiting news about superstar outfielder Juan Soto’s future in the Bronx.
According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, a source revealed that the Yankees made a “great pitch” to the American League MVP finalist during a Monday meeting, achieving their objectives in the process.
Heyman also reported that Soto left the meeting feeling reassured about the potential for a strong relationship with Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner if he decides to re-sign. The Yankees acquired Soto, a multiple-time All-Star, in a blockbuster trade with the San Diego Padres before the 2024 season.
Steinbrenner relied on Aaron Judge and Gerrit Cole to discreetly check in on Soto throughout the season, avoiding any disruption to his routine.
Heyman added that Soto’s perception of Steinbrenner and the Yankees improved following the meeting, during which the team highlighted its advantages in revenue, tradition, and brand recognition as MLB’s most iconic franchise.
The Yankees are among several teams vying for Soto’s signature, with other contenders including the New York Mets, Los Angeles Dodgers, Boston Red Sox, and Toronto Blue Jays.
New York Yankees ‘encouraged’ after meeting with Juan Soto
According to Bob Klapisch of NJ Advance Media, the Yankees were “encouraged” after their in-person meeting with Juan Soto on Monday.
“The Yankees left the meeting with Soto feeling optimistic about their chances of securing the slugger on a long-term deal,” Klapisch reported, citing a source familiar with the discussion.
Soto is expected to seek a contract exceeding $600 million, potentially breaking records for both total value and annual average value.
