Auburn’s 2025 recruiting class dropped back to 27 commitments after offensive line recruit from Athens (Ala.) High School made a post on X.
“After much reflection, prayer, and discussions with my family, I have made the decision to decommit from Auburn University,” Dowland shared on X. “I want to thank Coach Freeze and the entire coaching staff.”
Dowland, a 6-foot-6, 290-pound offensive lineman, had been a long-time commitment to Auburn and was a frequent visitor to the campus, consistently speaking highly of the Tigers. However, rumors had circulated about his future with the class.
It appears those rumors may have had some truth, as Dowland has already scheduled an official visit with Mississippi State for November 22. There’s a chance he could end up playing at Jordan-Hare Stadium, but with a different SEC team.
Dowland had received offers from several programs, including Auburn, Florida State, Tennessee, Mississippi State, Arkansas, Troy, and UAB. He was ranked as the 40th-best offensive tackle by 247 Sports.
Despite Dowland’s decommitment, Auburn’s 2025 class remains the No. 5-ranked recruiting class in the country according to 247 Sports.
