College football has seen its fair share of ups and downs this season, but one constant has been ESPN’s pregame show, “College GameDay,” which continues to provide an exceptional pregame experience ahead of each Saturday’s full lineup of games.
For Week 12, the “GameDay” team traveled to Athens, Georgia, on the University of Georgia campus, where they covered a huge SEC clash between the No. 7 Tennessee Volunteers and the No. 12 Georgia Bulldogs.
The energy is always high when the “GameDay” crew is surrounded by a crowd of Bulldogs fans, but this season has felt particularly unique. A large part of that is due to significant additions to the show, such as Pat McAfee joining last season and legendary coach Nick Saban being added this year.
These changes have proven to be successful, with the show achieving impressive viewership numbers. On Monday, ESPN shared statistics showcasing just how well the show has performed this season.
The Week 12 broadcast from the University of Georgia drew an average of 2.0 million viewers, with the final hour attracting an even larger audience of 2.6 million. The show peaked at 2.9 million viewers during the broadcast. With only two weeks left in the regular season, “College GameDay” is on pace for its most successful season to date, averaging 2.1 million viewers so far.
In addition to Pat McAfee and Nick Saban, who bring their distinct personalities and deep football expertise, the show continues to feature long-time members Rece Davis, Desmond Howard, Lee Corso, and Kirk Herbstreit, who all continue to shine.
Corso, in particular, is having an excellent season with his headgear picks, holding an impressive 8-2 record so far.
This week, however, Corso faces a tough decision as the crew heads to Columbus, Ohio, for a high-stakes matchup between the No. 5 Indiana Hoosiers and the No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes. Ohio State holds a special place for Corso, often referred to as his “first love.” He has selected Brutus the Buckeye headgear more than any other team, and it was the first headgear he ever wore on “College GameDay.” However, Corso’s connection to Indiana is strong as well, having been a long-time coach there, which gives him deep emotional ties to the Hoosiers.
The Big Ten clash in Columbus is expected to bring an electric atmosphere, as Ohio State fans are no strangers to the show visiting their campus. This highly anticipated matchup will add even more excitement to a potentially brewing rivalry.
