The Bills rivals are a complete wreck. They’ve had terrible luck since Week 1 of last season, when Aaron Rodgers tore his achilles, and they’ve been arguably the league’s biggest letdown this year. After only five games, the Jets unexpectedly fired head coach Robert Saleh after a 2-3 start, one game behind the Bills in the AFC East.
They are 1-5 since losing Saleh, and they have now sacked their general manager, Joe Douglas. Douglas was employed by New York in 2019, and he has contributed to the development of a strong Jets club throughout time.
He also brought in Saleh in 2021, and the two agreed to choose quarterback Zach Wilson, which began their slide during their time with the Jets.
After missing out on Wilson, Douglas traded for Aaron Rodgers prior to the 2023 season, hoping he could boost the offense while not wasting a championship-caliber defense. Quite frankly, that is exactly what happened, and Douglas has paid the price by receiving the pink slip.
On paper, the Jets have the roster to beat the Bills, but nothing has worked out for them. Not only have they fired both Douglas and Saleh, but they are also saddled with a fading quarterback in Rodgers, who has no future at the position.
It’s only a matter of time before the Jets lose important players who have been a part of their great defense, and players like Sauce Gardner and Garrett Wilson will want high salaries. New York has a better chance of fighting for the first overall draft pick than for the Super Bowl.
With the Jets’ disorganization and them starting from scratch next year, the Bills move ahead in the division. The Miami Dolphins have been trounced by the Bills year after year and can’t seem to climb over the hump of stealing the AFC East from Buffalo. New England may have a promising future with Drake Maye, but the rest of the squad requires significant improvement.
Unless the Jets can turn around their organization quickly with their new management, the Bills should expect to be declared division champions for the foreseeable future.
