The New York Yankees need an almost flawless offseason to position themselves for a World Series run in 2025. After falling short against the Los Angeles Dodgers this year—who dominated the series—New York faces a challenging offseason. Key players like Juan Soto, Anthony Rizzo, Gleyber Torres, and several crucial bullpen arms could depart. Without significant moves, they risk falling behind division rivals like the Baltimore Orioles, Toronto Blue Jays, and Boston Red Sox in the AL East.
Chris Kirschner of *The Athletic* recently suggested a potential trade involving the Yankees and Washington Nationals. He proposed the Yankees send Marcus Stroman, infielder Jorbit Vivas, and $6 million to the Nationals in exchange for utility player Juan Yepez. Kirschner noted that Yepez, who can play multiple infield and outfield positions, could serve as a valuable bench piece for New York. Meanwhile, the Nationals, looking to bolster their starting rotation and first base, might view Yepez as expendable.
The trade would free up $8.5 million for the Yankees and bring in a pre-arbitration player, while the Nationals would gain useful assets in Stroman, Vivas, and cash. For the Yankees, offloading Stroman’s contract seems logical, especially after he failed to make the postseason roster. Including Vivas and $6 million in the deal would not be a significant loss, making the trade a promising win-win for both teams.
