BREAKING: Yankees Loses Juan Soto to NL Rival After ‘Extremely’ Good Pitch

The New York Yankees face stiff competition from their crosstown rivals, the New York Mets, in the race to secure Juan Soto in free agency. Soto is expected to command an enormous contract, potentially exceeding $700 million, but winning his signature will require more than just a financial offer.

According to Jon Heyman of the *New York Post* (November 16), the Mets impressed Soto with an elaborate pitch meeting in California. This interaction has solidified their position as frontrunners in the battle for Soto’s services beyond 2025, potentially even shifting the momentum in their favor.

“All indications are that the meeting went exceptionally well,” Heyman reported. “The Mets are now widely seen as one of the top contenders for the 26-year-old star, who played a key role in helping the Yankees reach the World Series during his first season in The Bronx in 2024. Both New York teams have made Soto their top offseason priority.” Heyman also noted that the Mets’ presentation was described as a “major production” and “highly detailed.”

Mets Pulled Out All Stops When Pitching Yankees Slugger Juan Soto

The Mets went all out in their effort to recruit Juan Soto, bringing several top executives to the meeting to make their case for the star slugger to switch sides in New York.

“One source described the Mets as ‘hopeful’—and perhaps even optimistic—about landing the biggest prize of this free-agent class,” Jon Heyman noted. “Mets baseball president David Stearns, manager Carlos Mendoza, and owner Steve Cohen were all part of the California meeting, which reportedly left a strong impression.”

Soto will have no shortage of suitors, with consistent championship contention likely influencing his decision. The Yankees, fresh off a World Series appearance largely fueled by Soto and Aaron Judge, have a strong case.

However, the Mets aren’t far behind, having advanced to the National League Championship Series before falling to the eventual champions, the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Dodgers are also expected to meet with Soto, ensuring another major contender in the race for his signature.

Juan Soto delivered a stellar performance in his debut season in New York, leading the league with 128 runs scored while racking up 41 home runs and 109 RBIs. He also demonstrated remarkable plate discipline, drawing 129 walks.

Soto posted a .569 slugging percentage and an impressive .989 OPS, earning his fourth consecutive All-Star selection, according to Baseball Reference.

As the premier free agent this offseason, Soto’s decision will set the tone for MLB’s free agency market, influencing the strategies of some of the league’s wealthiest and most competitive teams.
