Auburn quarterback availability for Saturday’s game against Louisiana-Monroe is uncertain.
Head coach Hugh Freeze shared that he missed practice last week after injuring his right throwing shoulder during Auburn’s loss to Vanderbilt, and the shoulder hasn’t fully recovered yet.
“He’s not as far along as I’d hoped with the shoulder,” Freeze said. “He thinks he’ll be okay, but he definitely wasn’t ready to play.”
Thorne has thrown for 1,825 yards with 13 touchdowns and seven interceptions. However, he was benched for Hank Brown after four interceptions in the loss to California.
Brown, who replaced Thorne, was later benched himself after three first-half interceptions against Arkansas, leaving freshman Walker White as the third option. Coach Hugh Freeze remained noncommittal about a quarterback change, whether due to health or performance issues.
“We’ll see how things go this week with him and the others getting reps, and take it from there,” Freeze said. “It’s not a sign that I don’t think he’s played fairly well recently. You just start thinking about the big picture.”
“That’s not always easy because you care about your players and want what’s best for each of them, as well as what gives us the best chance to win the last three games. Obviously, we’ll begin by assessing his health as the top priority.”
