Alabama football will be missing one of its top defenders against Mercer, as redshirt senior edge rusher is officially out for the season following an injury in Alabama’s victory over LSU.
“He is a special person in every way,” Alabama’s staff shared. “He not only contributes on the field but mentors teammates and gives so much to the team and this program. It’s hard to see a guy who’s invested so much go through this.”
Alabama faces Mercer in a “buy game” this Saturday before closing its SEC schedule against Oklahoma and Auburn. To maintain their postseason hopes, Alabama will need to adjust to Robinson’s absence.
Defensive coordinator Kane Wommack highlighted that redshirt freshmen Qua Russaw and Yhonzae Pierre will fill in, expressing confidence in their readiness: “These guys are excited, adopting a ‘next man up’ mentality. These moments define the season—whether players step up when needed.”
In addition to Russaw and Pierre, Alabama could increase Jihaad Campbell’s snaps at edge. The standout inside linebacker has been getting reps rushing the passer, with Wommack noting his versatility: “He’s a difference-maker wherever he plays. We’ll find creative ways to match him up one-on-one, whether rushing the passer or dropping him in coverage.”
Alabama kicks off against Mercer at 1 p.m. CT on Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Edge depth will also be limited with Keanu Koht suspended for this game.
