The 6-foot-6, 190-pound, known for his versatility as a point guard/shooting guard, announced his verbal commitment to the Orange on October 23. He chose Syracuse over offers from notable programs, including California, Florida, Louisville, and St. Bonaventure, according to media reports.
Originally from Melbourne, Australia, Fennell earned a four-star rating from 247Sports, a recognition that aligns with the high praise analysts and scouts have given to his skill set since committing to Syracuse. As of this ranking update, 247Sports places him at No. 124 overall in the 2025 cycle, No. 23 among shooting guards, and as the No. 3 prospect from Australia.
For the 2024-25 season, Luke Fennell will be competing for the South East Melbourne Phoenix, a team in the National Basketball League (NBL), which features professional teams from Australia and New Zealand.
Currently, in the industry-generated 247Sports Composite, Fennell holds a three-star rating, ranking No. 159 overall, No. 27 among shooting guards, and No. 3 in Australia. Meanwhile, On3 also lists him as a three-star prospect, placing him as the No. 27 point guard in the 2025 class. As Fennell continues to showcase his talents and receive more exposure, it’s highly possible that he will rise to a four-star rating across the board and break into the top 100 of the 2025 recruiting cycle.
Syracuse’s 2025 recruiting class already includes three verbal commitments, with Fennell joining five-star forward Sadiq White Jr. from IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, and three-star wing Aaron Womack from Dominican High School in Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin. This strong core gives the Orange a promising future, with their class currently ranked No. 16 overall by the 247Sports Composite, No. 25 nationally by Rivals, and No. 57 by On3.
Excitement could grow further later this week as Syracuse awaits the decision of 2025 four-star shooting guard Kiyan Anthony from Long Island Lutheran High School in Brookville, New York. The Orange have been receiving positive buzz in analyst predictions for Anthony, who is set to announce his commitment on Friday, November 15. If he pledges to Syracuse, Anthony—considered a top-30 national prospect in the senior class—would give a major boost to the team’s 2025 recruiting efforts.
