The star has officially moved on from the Syracuse Orange basketball program after a stellar career that captivated fans following transfer with head coach. With eligibility limits in college sports has graduated and now in pursuit of a professional basketball career.
So, what’s next for Syracuse, and is there reason for optimism?
Absolutely. Coach Legette-Jack’s leadership and a talented roster make the Orange a team to watch in the 2024-25 season. In their opener, a high-scoring 108-84 win over Niagara, Syracuse showcased its potential.
Two seniors, Kyra Wood and Georgia Woolley, are expected to shine this season. Wood contributed 19 points against Niagara, while Woolley, a versatile 6-foot guard from Australia, added 18 points, proving her ability to impact the game from the perimeter and in other facets. Buffalo native Wood excels in penetration and rebounding, along with teammate Keira Scott, who could see increased minutes.
The team’s depth is noteworthy. Graduate player Dominique Camp, returning from injury, made a strong impact with double-digit scoring and nine assists in the opener. Freshman Shy Hawkins also impressed, scoring in double digits and making highlight-worthy plays.
The Orange roster features a mix of freshmen, transfers, and experienced players like graduate student Izabel Varejao. Promising performances by freshman Olivia Schmitt and sophomore Sophie Burrows, who showed poise as floor generals, highlight the balance and depth of talent that Coach Legette-Jack has at her disposal.
Replacing a player like Fair is challenging, but Syracuse has demonstrated enough potential in early games, including a dominant exhibition victory over Daemen (90-50) and the win over Niagara, to suggest they can remain competitive. Team chemistry and collective effort will be key to postseason success.
Coach Legette-Jack’s leadership is a driving force for the program. Her ability to motivate and unite players, along with her commitment to the program, school, and community, inspires confidence in her decision-making and vision.
With upcoming games against Saint Joseph’s and Maryland, fans will get an even better sense of the team’s potential leading into ACC play, which begins on December 8th at home against Notre Dame. Syracuse’s women’s basketball team deserves strong support, as their future is bright and exciting. Go Orange!
