In 2023, the New York Giants made a significant investment in quarterback Daniel Jones, offering him a four-year contract worth up to $160 million. However, after two underwhelming seasons since signing the extension, the Giants might be eyeing a new quarterback for the future. Analyst Nick Baumgardner from The Athletic suggests that the Giants could target Miami quarterback and Heisman Trophy frontrunner Cam Ward in the 2025 NFL Draft with the No. 6 overall pick.
Baumgardner envisions Ward benefiting from time to develop behind Jones, stating, “If a team can give Ward a year to sit, watch and adjust to the speed of the NFL, then I don’t mind the idea of taking him top 10. But if you’re asking him to save you tomorrow, you might be disappointed.” He also noted that while Ward has shown consistent improvement, his experience against elite defenses remains limited, and a playoff appearance could provide valuable exposure.
On the other hand, some analysts believe the Giants might miss out on Ward. Chris Trapasso from CBS Sports predicted that the New Orleans Saints could select Ward with the No. 3 overall pick as part of a major offensive overhaul. Trapasso argues that the Saints’ current roster is in a dire state, requiring a multi-year reset, which might include absorbing dead cap from Derek Carr’s contract to secure Ward as their future quarterback.
