Virginia Tech faces a potential setback this week with the statuses of starting quarterback Kyron Drones and star running back Bhayshul Tuten uncertain ahead of their matchup with Clemson. Head coach Brent Pry shared that both players are “questionable” to play, though he noted that Drones is showing improvement compared to last week, while Tuten’s condition remains less certain.
Drones, who missed last week’s game against Syracuse due to a lower-body injury, has accumulated 1,447 passing yards and 10 touchdowns this season, along with 323 rushing yards and six additional scores. In his absence, backup Collin Schlee stepped in, completing 16 of 24 passes for 206 yards, a touchdown, and adding a rushing score, though he also had two fumbles.
Meanwhile, Tuten, seen in a walking boot, has been a crucial offensive asset, rushing for 951 yards and 12 touchdowns on 142 carries this season. Pry expressed cautious optimism about Tuten’s chances of playing, though his availability may hinge on further evaluations.
With both teams grappling with injuries, Saturday’s game could come down to which squad can field the healthiest lineup. Clemson will need to monitor these developments closely, as Virginia Tech’s offensive output hinges significantly on the status of Drones and Tuten.
