The Green Bay Packers have already experienced a season filled with ups, downs, and a bit of drama. Despite this, they hold a 6-3 record and are heading into their bye week, now preparing for the second half of the 2024 season.
Although they’re coming off a disappointing loss at home to the NFC-leading Detroit Lions, it’s important to remember that this setback followed a four-game winning streak. The Packers are still widely regarded as Super Bowl contenders.
Their “contender” status may have dulled somewhat, but if quarterback Jordan Love can elevate his game in the second half and the defense maintains its Top 10 performance, continuing to force turnovers, the Packers should remain in strong contention.
There’s still plenty of football ahead. With that in mind, here are three bold predictions for the remainder of Green Bay’s season.
Jordan Love will throw only two more interceptions
It’s fair to say that Jordan Love hasn’t been exceptional for the Packers, and that’s okay to acknowledge. While he’s shown flashes of brilliance with some remarkable throws and has totaled 1,820 yards and 15 touchdowns, he also missed two games due to injury. However, his 10 interceptions tie him with Geno Smith for the league’s highest, even though Love has played only seven games compared to Smith’s nine.
That said, Love has shown in the past that he can be careful with the football. Although his interceptions have been rough, and his two pick-sixes painful to watch, this is the same quarterback who posted an 18-1 touchdown-to-interception ratio by the end of last season when Matt LaFleur’s offense was firing on all cylinders.
With that in mind, it’s reasonable to believe that Love resembles the player we saw at the end of last season, rather than the inconsistent one from the first half of 2024, when he’s been dealing with injuries. Thanks to an extra week of rest during the bye, he’s expected to come back strong against the Chicago Bears on November 17.
Love has shown he knows how to protect the ball, and you can bet LaFleur and the offensive staff will emphasize that with him for the remainder of the season.
While he might still throw a few interceptions, the prediction here is that he’ll embark on another impressive touchdown-to-interception streak, finishing with only two more picks in the next eight games. That would bring his season total to 12 interceptions, just one more than he had last season.
Evan Williams will be in Rookie of the Year convo
The Packers selected safety Evan Williams with the 111th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft (fourth round). Initially seen as a secondary addition after drafting Georgia defensive back Javon Bullard in the second round, Williams has turned out to be a standout in 2024.
The Packers have eased him into action, as they do with most rookies, but he’s already racked up 18 tackles, a forced fumble, an interception, and three passes defended.
Williams’ instincts are remarkable for a rookie, allowing him to quickly read and react to opposing offenses. He’s proven to be a reliable tackler in open space and an above-average athlete. With veteran Xavier McKinney, who has six interceptions, alongside him, Williams has had the freedom to play aggressively, knowing McKinney can back him up when needed.
Health is a minor concern; Williams missed Week 9’s game against the Lions due to an injury. If he returns strong after the bye, he’s likely to keep making big plays—enough that he could even be in the running for the NFL’s Defensive Rookie of the Year award.
