The Ole Miss Rebels received some positive news as they gear up to face the Georgia Bulldogs in a key SEC matchup. Head coach Lane Kiffin, who has been mentioned as a possible candidate in the college football coaching carousel, appears to be staying put for now, giving Ole Miss fans some relief. The Rebels enter the game as 2.5-point underdogs at home, according to Action Network. Meanwhile, news from another SEC program could impact Ole Miss: Florida announced it will retain head coach Billy Napier amid speculation about potential changes in Gainesville.
This decision matters for Ole Miss, as Kiffin had been linked to the Florida job. ESPN’s Pete Thamel previously reported that Kiffin was on Florida’s “wish list” to replace Napier. Thamel noted on November 1 that “The Florida coaching wish list is also fraught with potential College Football Playoff complications in terms of timing,” citing Kiffin, along with other candidates like James Franklin of Penn State, Matt Campbell of Iowa State, and Chris Klieman of Kansas State.

While this move takes one SEC team out of the mix, it doesn’t prevent other programs from pursuing Kiffin.
