The St. Louis Cardinals have signed catcher to league contract for the 2025 season, as announced through the team’s Player Development account on X.
He will turn 30 in February, has spent five seasons in the majors, though he hasn’t played in the big leagues since 2021. He was drafted by the Orioles in the second round of the 2013 draft and quickly climbed through their system, impressing at every level. By 2017, he was considered Baltimore’s top prospect by several major outlets like Baseball America and MLB Pipeline. Unfortunately, Sisco struggled to perform at the major league level, posting a .197/.317/.337 slash line over 196 games from 2017-21, with an 82 wRC+. His offensive numbers and subpar defensive metrics—specifically blocking, throwing, and framing—ultimately led to his struggles.
In June 2021, the Orioles designated Sisco for assignment, and the Mets claimed him, though he only appeared in five games before they DFA’d him in September. Sisco then moved between the Mariners’ and Twins’ minor league systems, played for the Acereros de Monclova in the Mexican League, and also suited up for the Long Island Ducks in the Atlantic League. His performance in the Atlantic League, where he posted a .274/.416/.609 line, earned him a minor league deal with the Cardinals in August. His brief stint with the Triple-A Memphis Redbirds—where he went 5-for-23 with one home run and a walk over seven games—has led the team to bring him back for 2025.
Additionally, the Cardinals announced that left-hander Packy Naughton has signed a new minor league deal, which he shared on Instagram. Nine other minor leaguers have also been re-signed for 2025: right-handers Augusto Calderon, Angel Cuenca, Inohan Paniagua, Dionys Rodríguez, Victor Santos, and Leonardo Taveras; catcher Gavin Collins; infielder Ramon Mendoza; and outfielder/second baseman Darlin Moquete.
