Just In: Dolphins get worst possible trade deadline update in franchise history

The Miami Dolphins may be sitting at a 2-6 record, but they clearly don’t see their season as lost yet. While one might expect them to stay put with their current roster and ride out the rest of the season, they seem to have other plans.

Following Sunday’s loss to the Buffalo Bills, which put them at 2-6, agent Drew Rosenhaus shared a surprising update during his weekly news segment. His comments could very well leave fans frustrated and reignite calls for General Manager Chris Grier’s firing—complaints that have already been circulating for some time.

According to Rosenhaus, the Dolphins are making moves ahead of the trade deadline, not to offload players, but to add new talent.

“I can tell you that Chris Grier and the Dolphins have been very active in making phone calls,” Rosenhaus said. “Without going into details, I know for certain that the Dolphins have been aggressive in their efforts to improve. They haven’t made a trade yet, but that’s not for lack of trying.”

“With that said, I don’t expect the Dolphins to give up on the season at all. I don’t foresee them trading away any top players, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they brought in someone new.”

Dolphins could be about to make a big mistake at the NFL trade deadline

Chris Grier's History Sheds Light on What is Coming

Defensively, there are clear issues, so it’s possible Grier is attempting to address those weaknesses. With games remaining against the Packers, 49ers, Texans, and two against the Jets, winning nine straight seems unlikely. This week, they’re heading to the West Coast to face the Rams.

On the other hand, perhaps the Dolphins should be going all-in before Tuesday’s deadline. It could be that Grier feels the pressure and is making moves to secure his position. If these efforts fall short, it might finally push Stephen Ross to make a change—a decision that some fans feel is long overdue.

If Rosenhaus is correct and the Dolphins are indeed buyers, fans may be justified in their frustration, especially if Grier starts using future draft picks that Miami, given its financial situation, would typically need to build a competitive roster.

Then again, with Grier’s draft picks often ending up on the bench or inactive list, does it really matter how many he has?
