Just In: Virginia Tech To Get Huge Boost With Return of Two Key Players

Virginia Tech head coach Brent Pry provided significant injury updates on Tuesday following the team’s 21-6 victory over Georgia Tech, where the Hokies’ defense excelled by shutting down the Yellow Jackets, forcing three turnovers on downs, two interceptions, and three punts in the second half. However, attention soon shifted to two critical offensive injuries.

In the second half, offensive lineman Xavier Chaplin exited with a leg injury, and later, running back Bhayshul Tuten sustained what appeared to be an ankle injury as the Hokies worked to run down the clock. After the game, Pry had limited updates, but later on Saturday, 247Sports’ Kolby Crawford reported that Tuten was seen wearing a walking boot.

This led to speculation about Tuten’s availability. On Monday, wide receiver Jaylin Lane, appearing on ACC PM, expressed confidence that Tuten would play in Saturday’s game at the JMA Wireless Dome. Pry also suggested in his Tuesday press conference that both Chaplin and Tuten would likely suit up in New York.

Virginia Tech head coach Brent Pry announced that both Bhayshul Tuten and Xavier Chaplin are likely to play against Syracuse. This update is about as positive as it could get for the Hokies, especially with Virginia Tech just one game away from bowl eligibility at 5-3. Though running backs Malachi Thomas and Jeremiah Coney are healthy and prepared to step in, Tuten’s role in the offense is significant—his presence in the backfield opens up other facets of the game.

Even if Tuten isn’t at full strength, having him on the field would still be a boost for the Hokies. His workload on Saturday will be closely monitored, but Pry’s update leaves hope that both players are set to contribute.
