With linebacker Matt Milano injured, Terrel Bernard was expected to step up as the defensive leader for the Buffalo Bills. However, Bernard’s own injury setbacks have prevented that from happening. He’s appeared in only five games this season and hasn’t surpassed 11 tackles in any single game since the season opener. Currently, he’s dealing with ankle and pectoral injuries sustained during Buffalo’s win over the Titans two weeks ago. After missing Buffalo’s 31-10 victory over the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, it’s uncertain whether the 25-year-old linebacker will be ready to play next week against the Miami Dolphins.
“I don’t know, for sure,” said Bills head coach Sean McDermott. “I’d love to be able to say yes, he’s going to play, but I don’t know. What I have on that right now is, I’m going to know a little bit more [Tuesday]. He’ll work with the trainers again [Tuesday]. He was left at home this past weekend, as was Curtis Samuel, for rehab purposes. We’ll know a little bit more [Tuesday] once they get a chance, both of them, to check in with the trainers and see where they’re at.”
While Buffalo’s defense has held strong without both Bernard and Milano, they may struggle to cover these losses against the league’s top teams. For this reason, getting Bernard back to full health is crucial for the Bills.
