The New York Rangers made an unexpected roster move, calling up forward from the AHL following the decision to send down young enforcer to the Hartford Wolfpack.
The Rangers opted to assign young enforcer to Hartford after he struggled in the early NHL season. The 22-year-old, standing at 6-foot-9, played just two games for the Rangers and was a healthy scratch in five others. Rather than keeping him in a limited role, the Rangers felt he would benefit from more ice time in the AHL.
The Rangers confirmed Leschyshyn’s call-up, sharing the announcement on X:
Drafted 62nd overall in 2017 by the Vegas Golden Knights, the 25-year-old Leschyshyn has played 77 NHL games between the Golden Knights and Rangers, with most of his time spent in the AHL with the Chicago Wolves, Henderson Silver Knights, and Hartford Wolfpack. Last season, he scored 19 points, including eight goals, across 47 AHL games and played one game with the Rangers.
Leschyshyn is expected to join the Rangers’ lineup tonight as they aim to recover from a 3-1 loss to the Florida Panthers and face the Anaheim Ducks, featuring former Rangers Frank Vatrano and Ryan Strome.
Meanwhile, Rempe made his AHL debut with the Wolfpack last night, ending with a -2 rating, while Leschyshyn scored two points, including a goal, in the same game.
