When Ohio State competes against Nebraska, they may be missing one of their top defensive backs.
In a brief press conference at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center, Ryan Day reported that top star’s health is getting better, but the experienced safety remains “day-to-day” as the team prepares for their home game against the Cornhuskers.
Day also addressed several other topics, including Zen Michalski, Lorenzo Styles Jr., and the Oregon game.
Here are the key points from Day’s recent press conference:
Reflecting on his time at Temple in 2006 with Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule: “That was my first full-time job and quite a challenge. As an assistant, I gained a lot of knowledge about recruiting and football. I have many fond memories. Matt did an excellent job and was instrumental in Temple’s success.”
On Zen Michalski: “You can see how hard he’s working. Communication has been effective on that front, and he’s excited to play on Saturday.”
Regarding Oregon’s 12-man penalty: “It’s a competitive sport. Everyone is going to do whatever it takes to win—that’s just how it is.”
On when Ohio State moved past the Oregon game: “Once we arrived here on Wednesday, it was time to shift our focus. We believe we are in control of our future moving forward.”
On Ohio State’s depth as the season progresses: “You’re starting to see Lorenzo Styles getting more playing time.” Day also highlighted Jermaine Mathews Jr., Malik Hartford, Jaylen McClain, and Kayden McDonald as players who need to contribute in the upcoming weeks.
On Lathan Ransom’s injury: “There’s nothing serious. He’s currently day-to-day and making progress. We’ll see how he feels tomorrow.”
On Michalski playing left tackle instead of Tegra Tshabola, Austin Siereveld, and Luke Montgomery: “We believed Zen performed well in the preseason. While Josh has been making significant progress, his name didn’t come up often, but we are pleased with Zen’s development. We have backup plans, but we’re confident in Zen going into the game. He’s had a strong week of practice.”
