Green Bay Packers defensive tackle returned to practice on Wednesday after missing the past three games due to a sprained ankle he sustained in the fourth quarter of the Week 4 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.
After practice, he expressed optimism about his recovery, saying, “I’m feeling pretty well. I’m happy. I’m blessed. Blessed to be back.” When asked about his availability for Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Wyatt responded confidently, “I should be able to go Sunday. Yes, sir.”
However, whether he will actually play remains uncertain. Often, Packers players who have missed multiple weeks return to practice to get back into game shape and then play the following week. In this case, Green Bay has a critical NFC North matchup against the Detroit Lions next week, which might influence the decision to ease Wyatt back in.
Despite appearing in only four games this season, Wyatt leads the team with three sacks, is tied for the lead in tackles for loss (six) with Eric Wilson, and is second in quarterback hits (five), just behind Rashan Gary. His strong start to the season has left him eager to return and build on that momentum. “I feel like I started off good, but I just got to come back, keep that momentum going, really,” Wyatt added.
Meanwhile, three Packers starters did not practice: left guard Elgton Jenkins (glute), center Josh Myers (wrist), and linebacker Quay Walker (concussion). Jenkins usually doesn’t practice on Wednesdays, and both he and Myers played all 58 snaps in last week’s game against Houston.
Cornerback and kick returner Keisean Nixon (hamstring) was limited in practice, though his absence may not be a major concern, as only 15.2% of Jaguars kicker Cam Little’s kickoffs have been returned this season, the seventh-lowest rate in the league.
Notably, wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks, who was questionable last week with a shoulder injury but played against Houston, was not listed on the injury report this week.
For the Jaguars, linebacker Foye Oluokun (foot) and safety Andrew Wingard (knee) had their 21-day practice windows opened. Oluokun ranked fourth in the NFL with 173 tackles last season, following a league-leading 184 tackles in 2022. Wingard currently holds the team’s only interception.
Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson mentioned, “They can practice now with the team and not on the side with the trainer… If it looks good, great. If not, we go another week and see next week.”
