New York Yankees manager is reportedly set to return for the 2025 season, though there is uncertainty about his long-term future with the team. After a disappointing 2023 season, in which the Yankees narrowly finished above .500 and missed the playoffs, Boone faced significant pressure heading into 2024. However, his leadership has led the Yankees to a remarkable turnaround, as they now prepare for Game 1 of the 2024 World Series, a strong testament to his managerial abilities. Despite this success, Boone’s contract situation means his future beyond 2025 remains undecided.
New York Yankees skipper Aaron Boone may only get option picked up after this season
MLB insider Jon Heyman discussed Aaron Boone’s future during a live stream on Bleacher Report. He expressed confidence that Boone is set to return next season but hinted that it might not involve a new multi-year contract.
“I can’t imagine any scenario, regardless of what happens in the World Series, where they let him go. They have an option on him, and at the very least, they’ll pick it up. He’s definitely coming back. I don’t see them parting ways with him, even if they get swept. Reaching the World Series is no small feat. He’s doing a good job, despite the criticism.”
Heyman also noted that Boone might get an additional year on his contract, or possibly two if they win the World Series. However, it’s notable that he didn’t mention a multi-year deal being considered. He suggested that this could be due to top executive Brian Cashman having two years left on his own contract with the Yankees.
