The Buffalo Bills are 5-2 after being one of the most consistent teams in sport over the first seven weeks, and Josh Allen’s performance has played a significant role. Allen, who has been noted for his interception rate in recent seasons (18, 14, and 15 in the last three), has yet to throw an interception in seven games of 2024. Joe Brady, the offensive coordinator, has emphasized the significance of Allen protecting the football and what it means for the offense.
“Anytime you turn the ball over in the NFL, you’re at a disadvantage,” Brady told the crowd. “Even when there are lulls on offense or we aren’t firing all the time, as long as those drives finish in a punt, we have a chance to flip the field. So, instead of playing scared or conservative, realize the necessity of protecting the football for 60 minutes. Good things typically happen. We’re pleased with how they’ve done it so far, and we want to keep it up.” Allen protecting the football has allowed the offense to get started, especially when things aren’t going well. It also implies that the defense isn’t put in difficult positions.
Currently having the fifth-ranked offense in football (28.4 points per game), it is notable that the unit has only two turnovers this season, indicating that they are not shooting themselves in the foot and have the opportunity on every drive to either score or punt the football away without putting themselves in danger. And it is a winning strategy in the NFL.
