The South Carolina Gamecocks have navigated the 2024 season with a young receiving corps following the departure of several wide receivers to the transfer portal after the 2023 season. Junior wide receiver, a transfer from Coastal Carolina, emerged as a promising option early on, but injuries derailed his season. Brown has only played in a few games, logging eight receptions for 103 yards (12.9 yards per catch) without finding the end zone.
Brown’s setbacks began with a lower-body injury against LSU, followed by a shoulder injury upon his return in the Ole Miss game, which sidelined him for the matchups against Alabama and Oklahoma. However, the upcoming second bye week arrives at a favorable time for South Carolina, allowing Brown to recover. Head coach Shane Beamer provided a hopeful update, indicating that Brown is on track to return for the homecoming game against Texas A&M.
The Gamecocks are relatively healthy as they head into the bye week, with the coaching staff optimistic about getting key players back. Defensive tackle DeAndre Jules is expected to return, adding depth to the defensive line. Meanwhile, standout cornerback O’Donnell Fortune, who had a significant performance against Alabama, is dealing with a lingering injury that flared up again during the Oklahoma game. The bye week offers a chance for Fortune to rest and be ready for the matchup with the Aggies.
With these potential returns, the Gamecocks are aiming to be as close to full strength as possible for their homecoming game, hoping to make a strong push in the latter half of the season.
