Alexis Lafrenière has three goals and three assists for a total of six points through five games.
The 23-year-old is coming off a career-high season in which he scored 28 goals and 29 assists for 56 points across 82 appearances. Lafrenière scored eight goals and 14 points in 16 Stanley Cup playoff games.
Lafrenière’s point production increased significantly, as he has routinely added 18 points to his stat sheet since making his NHL debut in 2020-21.
Last week, Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli revealed that a possible extension for Lafrenière was in the works to keep him in the Big Apple long term. “I shared on Amazon last night that it’s 8 years for $8 million, but it could be a shorter-term deal,” Seravalli said on Daily Faceoff Live last week. “The Ranger’s biggest challenge will be handling the first two years of that agreement since they have other contracts on the books. But, given his development, you won’t see him sign a deal with an AAV less than $7 million.”
The New York Rangers have announced that forward Alexis Lafrenière is day-to-day with an upper-body ailment.
Lafrenière has played 303 NHL games, scoring 78 goals and 76 assists for a total of 154 points. He’s added 23 points in 43 Stanley Cup playoff games.
Lafrenière was the first overall pick in the 2020 NHL Draft, but it took him some time to break through and establish himself. Lafrenière played three seasons with the Rimouski Oceanic of the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), winning the QMJHL and CHL Rookie of the Year awards in 2017-18 and the CHL Player of the Year title in 2019-20. Throughout his QMJHL career, the St-Eustache, Quebec native scored 297 points in 173 games.
