Just In: Dave Roberts opens up on Shohei Ohtani’s struggles in Game 2

Dave Roberts, manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers, opened up about Shohei Ohtani’s struggles at the plate in Game 2 of the NLDS against the New York Mets. Ohtani finished 0-for-3 with two walks in Game 2, failing to record a hit and striking out twice. Ohtani had a difficult performance, especially after going 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored in Game 1.

Following the Dodgers’ crushing 7-3 loss to the Mets, Roberts spoke with the media and was asked about Ohtani’s troubles in Game 2. Roberts claimed Ohtani didn’t look at ease against Manaea, and that the Mets pitcher was trying to keep the ball away from him.

“I thought he didn’t look comfortable versus Manaea,” Roberts told the media at the postgame press conference. “The heater is off. “You can see he was just trying to keep the ball away from Shohei.” In nine plate appearances against Manaea, Ohtani is 2-7 with an RBI, two walks, and two strikeouts. In the Mets’ triumph, Manaea pitched five innings and allowed three runs, two earned, two hits, four walks, and seven strikeouts.

Ohtani and the Dodgers will now travel to the Mets for a critical Game 3 on Wednesday. The first pitch is scheduled for 8:08 p.m. ET.
