Breaking: Dodgers confirm blockbuster replacement for star after injury setback

The right-handed pitcher has been withdrawn from the Los Angeles Dodgers’ NL Division Series roster against the San Diego Padres due to a shoulder issue and replaced by another right-hander Ben Casparius.

MLB medical director Dr. Gary Green confirmed the injury after reviewing medical records, according to the commissioner’s office.

Grove faced two hitters in the eighth inning of the Dodgers’ 10-2 loss in Game 2 on Sunday, allowing a home run to Xander Bogaerts and striking out Jake Cronenworth.

If the Dodgers advance to the NL Championship Series, Grove will be unable to pitch but could return for the World Series.

“He’s been dealing with a shoulder issue for quite some time,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts explained. “Recovery isn’t good. We comprehend the cost of the following round, which is not available. Michael is terribly disappointed.”

Grove, 27, went 4-4 this season with a 5.12 ERA in two starts and 37 relief appearances.

Casparius, a 25-year-old rookie right-hander, made his major league debut on August 31 and went 2-0 with a 2.16 ERA in three bullpen appearances, striking out 12 and walking four over 8 1/3 innings.
