Struggling third baseman will return to the Philadelphia Phillies’ starting lineup for Game 3 against the New York Mets at Citi Field.
phillies baseman, who was selected as an All-Star this season, was absent from Game 2 at home on Sunday, with Edmundo Sosa filling in at third base and going hitless in two at-bats. Bohm did appear as a pinch hitter in the seventh inning but also failed to get a hit.
The Phillies staged a late rally to secure a 7-6 victory, evening the best-of-five series at one game apiece.
The team practiced in Queens, where manager Rob Thomson confirmed that Bohm will start against Mets left-hander Sean Manaea on Tuesday.
“Oh yeah, he’s playing. I think he’s in a good place. He was just hitting in the cages and getting his reps. I’m not sure if he’ll take batting practice on the field today, but yeah, I think he’s fine,” Thomson said.
Bohm was sidelined from August 30 to September 14 due to a strained left hand that landed him on the injured list. Since then, he’s managed only two hits in his last 34 at-bats.
This season, he recorded a .280 batting average with 15 home runs, 97 RBIs, and 44 doubles, though he struggled towards the end, finishing with just two hits in his last 28 at-bats.
In Game 1 against the Mets, he went hitless in four at-bats and expressed his frustration by slamming his helmet after another failed attempt.
His last notable performance came on September 20 at Citi Field, where he went 4 for 5 with a three-run homer and four RBIs, which helped the Phillies clinch a playoff spot.
Aaron Nola is scheduled to pitch for Philadelphia, and Thomson confirmed that All-Star lefty Ranger Suárez will start Game 4.
