Injury Update: Dodgers Announce Top Experienced Star Now Out for Remainder of 2024 Season

Los Angeles fans’ long-standing fears have become reality: the Dodgers have officially announced that star player is out for the remainder of the 2024 season.

The future Hall of Famer won’t return this year due to bone spurs in his big toe, as confirmed by Dodgers manager Dave Roberts on Saturday. The Dodgers are set to face the San Diego Padres in the NLDS, but they’ll do so without Kershaw on their roster.

Kershaw, who made only seven starts in 2024—a career low—posted a 2-2 record with a 4.50 ERA and 24 strikeouts in 30 innings. The Dodgers placed him on the injured list on August 31, following a rough outing against the Arizona Diamondbacks, where he allowed three earned runs in one inning. According to Roberts, via Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register, Kershaw’s injury may have worsened since then or hasn’t sufficiently healed.

Widely considered one of the greatest pitchers of the 21st century, Kershaw has a storied career, although his postseason record has been more uneven. The 36-year-old boasts a 212-94 record with 2,968 strikeouts and a 2.50 ERA in regular season play, alongside a 13-13 record with a 4.49 ERA and 213 strikeouts in the playoffs.
