Breaking News: Insider Shares Unfortunate Announcement Relating to Red Wings Player

NHL insider Chris Johnston has shared unfortunate news regarding  goaltender. Since leaving Toronto as a free agent in 2022, Campbell has faced several challenges, including spending much of last season in the AHL. Now, Johnston reports that Campbell has entered the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program.

After a brief and difficult stint in Edmonton, Jack Campbell signed with the Detroit Red Wings this summer, where he was expected to compete for a backup goalie position or a starting role with the Grand Rapids Griffins in the AHL.

Campbell, 32, has had a tumultuous career since being drafted 11th overall in the 2010 NHL Draft by the Dallas Stars. Despite his high expectations, he spent several seasons moving between the NHL and minor leagues before eventually finding a solid role as a backup with the LA Kings, where he posted impressive numbers.

He was later traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2019-20 season, where he initially thrived, transitioning from a backup to a starting goalie. Beloved by teammates, the media, and fans alike, Campbell quickly became a fan favorite in Toronto.

However, instead of staying with the team where he found success, Campbell used his strong play to secure a five-year, $25 million contract with the Edmonton Oilers as a free agent before the 2022-23 season. Unfortunately, his time in Edmonton did not go as planned. Campbell was soon relegated to backup duties, played sparingly the following season, and was eventually sent to the AHL before being bought out in the summer.

The reasons for Campbell entering the player assistance program remain confidential, but the program supports players dealing with issues such as substance abuse, mental health challenges, sleep disorders, and other health concerns.

Whatever the cause, we hope Campbell receives the support he needs and returns to the NHL soon. Best of luck, Soupy.
