Breaking: Bruins Officially Complete Blockbuster Signing to Replace Jeremy Swayman

Bruins president Cam Neely opened up about the team’s contract negotiations with goaltender Jeremy Swayman over the summer. Neely mentioned the team’s offer and suggested that Swayman might be attempting to “reset” the market for goalies.

While Swayman’s contract situation remains unresolved, the Bruins have brought in another goalie.  Bruins announced they have signed Jiri Patera from the Vancouver Canucks.

Patera, 25, was originally a sixth-round pick by the Las Vegas Golden Knights in the 2017 NHL Draft. The Czech goaltender has played 85 AHL games, compiling a 37-40-6 record, a 2.92 goals-against average, and a .907 save percentage. He also appeared in eight NHL games for Vegas between the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons.

Last season, Patera posted an 11-10-4 record with a 2.99 goals-against average and a .903 save percentage in 25 games with the Henderson Silver Knights (AHL). He signed a two-year, two-way contract with the Canucks on July 1.

It’s unclear if Patera’s addition is related to the tense negotiations with Swayman. Neely suggested the team offered Swayman a $64 million deal, which was disputed by Swayman’s agent.

As the goaltending situation remains uncertain, Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery revealed that Joonas Korpisalo is expected to start in next Tuesday’s regular-season opener against the Florida Panthers. Brandon Bussi, who played the last two seasons with Providence, is currently serving as Korpisalo’s backup.
