Breaking News: Rangers officially cuts 5 players ahead of regular season

The New York Rangers have only a few preseason games remaining before the 2024-25 regular season begins. This implies that in the coming days, the Blueshirts must decide who will make the final squad.

On Tuesday afternoon, the waivers were filled with New York players who would either be cut or play in Hartford for the start of the season.

Rangers unload prospects onto waivers before the end of preseason

Tuesday afternoon began with the Blueshirts releasing several players. Adam Erne, Madison Bowey, Blade Jenkins, Nate Sucese, and Blake Hillman were all on the list. All players mentioned are expected to report to Hartford for training camp, with Erne and Bowey remaining on PTOs in the AHL.

More noteworthy individuals were immediately cut from the list, including Bryce McConnell-Barker, Adam Sykora, Dylan Roobroeck, and Jaroslav Chmelar. Sykora and McConnell-Barker are both highly gifted prospects, but it appears the Rangers do not believe they are ready for the NHL just yet.

The Rangers finished the day by placing Anton Blidh, Brandon Scanlin, Louis Domingue, and Casey Fitzgerald on waivers.

A few notable prospects still remain on the roster as preseason reaches its end

With preseason wrapping up soon, a few notable prospects are still vying for a spot on the Rangers’ squad. The two most well-known names are Brennan Othmann and Victor Mancini.

Othmann has the highest chance of making the roster. The only obstacle in his path is the lack of a vacant top-nine position. The Rangers are unlikely to want to waste his potential on the fourth line, but it is evident that the franchise values what he brings to the ice.

Mancini is a sleeper pick to join the Blueshirts’ defensive corps. With Ryan Lindgren out due to injury, the young defenseman could see action early in the season. It seems unlikely, but anything is possible given Mancini is still with the Rangers in New York as of Tuesday.
