This roster changes and injury updates page will be updated as new information becomes available during the offseason. Players on the 60-day injured list will need to be added back to the Reds’ 40-man roster when the World Series ends.
LHP Andrew Abbott (left shoulder strain)
Expected return: 2025
Abbott was unable to rejoin the rotation before the 2024 season ended. However, he has started a throwing program and bullpen sessions. He is expected to have a normal offseason and be ready for Spring Training in 2025. (Updated: Sept. 29)
LHP Nick Lodolo (left middle finger sprain)
Expected return: 2025
Lodolo was placed on the IL on Aug. 27. The team prioritized his full recovery, opting not to rush his return. Lodolo had four separate IL stints in 2024, following a 2023 season where he made just seven starts. (Updated: Sept. 29)
1B/DH Jeimer Candelario (fractured left big toe)
Expected return: 2025
Candelario has been out since Aug. 19 due to lingering pain from a pitch that fractured his toe. (Updated: Sept. 29)
LHP Sam Moll (left shoulder impingement)
Expected return: 2025
The Reds shut Moll down for the season to focus on offseason treatment. He had been managing the shoulder injury since June, but it worsened on Sept. 6. Moll struggled in his final appearance on Sept. 7, leading to his placement on the IL the next day. (Updated: Sept. 29)
RHP Julian Aguiar (right elbow sprain)
Expected return: 2025
Aguiar was placed on the IL on Sept. 24 after allowing seven runs in his last start against the Braves. He first noticed the issue in a side session following that outing. (Updated: Sept. 24)
2B Matt McLain (left shoulder surgery)
Expected return: 2025
McLain has been participating in instructional league games and has been added to the taxi squad for the Arizona Fall League to get more at-bats. He’s recovering from shoulder surgery performed in March. (Updated: Sept. 29)
1B Christian Encarnacion-Strand (right hand fracture)
Expected return: 2025
Encarnacion-Strand is playing in the Arizona Fall League to get at-bats after missing time due to surgery on his hand in July. He suffered a right ulnar styloid fracture in May and underwent surgery in July for ligament damage. (Updated: Sept. 29)
LHP Brandon Williamson (left UCL tear)
Expected return: 2025 (Possibly)*
An MRI on Sept. 18 revealed a complete tear in Williamson’s UCL. Surgery has not been scheduled, but it’s likely that his recovery could extend through much of the 2025 season, if not all of it. (Updated: Sept. 24)
C Austin Wynns (right teres major tear)
Expected return: 2025
Wynns was shut down for the 2024 season to focus on his recovery after an attempt at a rehab assignment was canceled. He injured his shoulder while making a throw in July. (Updated: Sept. 24)
RHP Graham Ashcraft (right elbow strain)
Expected return: 2025
Ashcraft began throwing off the mound in mid-September, aiming to face live hitters in October before entering the offseason. He will not participate in fall or winter ball games. (Updated: Sept. 5)
OF Stuart Fairchild (torn left thumb ligament)
Expected return: 2025
Fairchild underwent season-ending surgery to repair his thumb ligament and will continue rehab in Arizona after Sept. 22. He is expected to be ready for Spring Training 2025. (Updated: Sept. 5)
RHP Tejay Antone (right elbow surgery)
Expected return: 2025
Antone is recovering from Tommy John surgery and is scheduled for MRI and ultrasound exams in October. If progress is good, he may begin a weighted ball-throwing program. (Updated: Sept. 4)
SS Edwin Arroyo (left shoulder surgery)
Expected return: 2025
Arroyo is progressing through a game schedule at the Reds’ Arizona complex after undergoing surgery for a torn labrum in March. He is set to participate in the Arizona Fall League. (Updated: Sept. 2)
RHP Christian Roa (right shoulder sprain)
Expected return: 2025
Roa was placed on the 60-day IL on Aug. 19 after sustaining a shoulder sprain. He has yet to make his MLB debut and spent most of 2024 in Triple-A Louisville. (Updated: Aug. 19)
