Just In: Nebraska star ‘feels great to be back’ after four-game absence

Nebraska linebacker Javin Wright returned against Purdue. He describes his unconventional approach to getting back on the field.

Nebraska senior linebacker Javin Wright revealed he has had Saturday’s game circled on his calendar for quite some time.

Wright, who had been sidelined by a health issue throughout the regular season, returned to action against the Boilermakers, registering three tackles in his first game of the year.

“It feels great to be back,” Wright stated. “I realize I have a long way to go to regain my conditioning and everything from last year. This is the beginning, and it always feels nice to start something.”

“It’s physically related,” Wright explained. “I can’t do anything physical in practice right now, but I’m deliberate about how I practice, work out, and exercise. I follow a somewhat different workout regimen than everyone else. “I just need to be deliberate in everything I do.”

Wright remained involved with the defense throughout his absence due to injury. He was frequently spotted huddling with his teammates during sessions and on the sidelines. He stated keeping active over the first four weeks of the season allowed him to smoothly integrate into the game plan for Saturday.

Wright said he had been aware for about three weeks that he might be able to return against Purdue, and he has been on a different pace than his teammates as he prepared to play again. Wright claimed on Saturday that he has simply been attending walk-through sessions to stay up to date on game plans while gradually returning to the field.

He explained that the plan and timescale he’s working on are unique.
